Tips for a neat result
- If the seam waves, sew with tissue paper under the fabric and tear it away after.
- If your machine has a walking foot, check the manual. It feeds both layers together and prevents stretching. Without one, lighten the foot pressure if your machine has a pressure dial.
Common mistakes and fixes
The seam is wavy.
The fabric was pulled while sewing. Hold gently and let the feed dogs work.
Stitches pop when the seam is stretched.
A straight stitch was used. Use a narrow zigzag or stretch stitch.
Holes appear near the stitches.
A universal or thick needle cut the yarn. Use a new ballpoint needle.
Skipped stitches.
The needle is wrong or dull, or the fabric is very stretchy. Fit a stretch needle.
Check your result
- The seam stretches with the fabric and returns without breaking.
